MVSKOKE RESERVATION – On May 12, the Land, Natural Resources, and Cultural Preservation Committee held an in-person meeting.
The committee addressed the following legislation, the interpretation of which is attributed to language in the bills. All legislation passed through the committee will be presented in the next session for full council approval.
TR 26-030 A tribal resolution of the MCN authorizing the Principal Chief to execute a location use agreement between the MCN and Inclined Productions, Inc. for filming activities at the Looped Square Meat Company property passed with a vote of 3-0. Representative Robyn Whitecloud sponsored this legislation.
“The Lowdown” Season 2 wants to use the Looped Square Meat location to film. In more detail, they will use it for audiovisual and photographic filming, as stated in the bill.
NCA 27-075 A law of the MCN authorizing a special appropriation for the cost of necessary measures related to the protection of the Muscogee sacred site of Hickory Ground near Wetumpka, Alabama, passed with a vote of 3-0. Representative Darell Proctor sponsored this legislation.
In Alabama, the Poarch Band currently owns the Oce Vpofv site, which they have disturbed and desecrated the remains of the Mvskoke people of Hickory ground as well as funerary objects that were buried with them to develop a casino, as stated in the bill. These funds will be going towards Oce Vpofv (Hickory Ground) in Alabama, to help fund legal defense to fight back, public relations services to protect the site, and legal services within the current site of their Ceremonial ground.
