MVSKOKE RESERVATION – The May 30 Special Election unofficial results are in, and three out of the four referendums will now become law after receiving the required two-thirds (66%) support from voters. The vote on the special justice appointment process received 76.29%; the vote on the referendum voting processes received 78.35%; and the vote on term limits for council representatives received 81.88%. The vote to replace “Muscogee” with “Mvskoke” received 57.36%.
17 voting sites across the reservation were open from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. The Muscogee Nation Election Board reported that the Glenpool Indian Community Center voting site did not open until 9:26 a.m. and remained open until 9:26 p.m. to accommodate voters. The unofficial results were published on Facebook on Saturday, May 30, at 10:33 p.m. According to the Muscogee Nation Election Board, all results are unofficial until Friday, June 5, at 5:00 p.m. (CST).

NCA 26-060 was a proposed amendment to “Replace ‘Muscogee’ with the traditional spelling of ‘Mvskoke’ and delete the word ‘(Creek)’ throughout the Constitution, including the illustrated official Seal in Section 3 of Article I of the Constitution, and establish the following savings clause in a newly created Section 4 of Article I of the Constitution.” All laws and official acts carried out by the Tribe before the name change would still be in effect. It received 57.36% of the total 2,831 cast votes.
NCA 26-061 allows the Principal Chief to “Appoint Special Justices to fill any vacancy/recusal on the Supreme Court so that every case in the Supreme Court will be heard by seven (7) Supreme Court Justices.” The appointed Special Justice serves only in the particular case for which they were chosen, and their term expires at the end of the case. It received 76.29% of the total 2,826 cast votes.
NCA 26-062 lets “Constitutional Amendments to be allowed on the General Election Ballots if adopted by two-thirds (⅔) vote by the National Council 90 days prior to a General Election.” It is the responsibility of the Principal Chief to set the election date by request of the National Council within 30 days. It received 78.35% of the total 2,790 cast votes.
NCA 26-063 is an amendment that will “Establish term limits for the National Council Representatives.” Each representative will be limited to three four-year terms, consecutive or nonconsecutive. This will not include partial terms to fill vacancies. It will begin with the filing of Seat A terms beginning in January 2028. received 81.88% of the total 2,793 cast votes.
