Funeral services for Gladys Deanne Sweezy were held on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Springfield Methodist Church of Okemah. Interment followed at the Palmer-Barnett Cemetery. Wake services were on Tuesday at the Springfield Methodist Church.
Gladys “Buttons” Deanne Barnett-Sweezy, she, was born on April 19, 1961, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and passed away on August 5, 2026, in the same city she called home throughout her life.
Gladys lived a life marked by love, resilience, and devotion to her family. She was a woman whose presence could be felt in every room, and she was known for her warm spirit, her steady strength, and the care she showed to those around her. She carried herself with grace and a quiet determination that touched the lives of many, and she will be remembered with deep affection by all who knew her.
She graduated from high school and went on to serve others as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant, a role that reflected her compassionate heart and her willingness to help those in need. Through her work, she demonstrated patience, kindness, and a genuine concern for the well-being of others. Her life of service was a meaningful part of who she was, and it left a lasting impression on the people she cared for and worked alongside.
Gladys found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved visiting thrift stores, browsing bookstores, and spending time at yard sales, always enjoying the excitement of finding something special. She especially cherished visiting with her sisters, and she loved her grandchildren dearly. These moments brought her happiness and reflected the deep family bonds that were so important to her.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Marcianna Renee (Littleman) Jacobs; her step-father, Eddie Jacobs her sisters, Tsiannina Barnett and Natasha Santana; her nephews, Terry Hoang and Charles Jason Smith; her grandmother, Pauline Flyingman; her grandpa, Robert Boone and grandfather, Robert Littleman; and her grandma, Florence Barnett. Their memories remained close to her heart, and she carried their love with her throughout her life.
Gladys is survived by her husband, Robert Sweezy; her father, Sampson Barnett; her sons, Christopher Hawk of McAlester, George Hawk, Jr. of Oklahoma City, Matthew Sweezy of Guthrie, and Robert Sweezy, Jr. of Oklahoma City; her daughters, Tsiannina Barnett of Oklahoma City, and Dylan Sweezy of Oklahoma City; her brothers, Damin Jacobs of Oklahoma City, and Anthony Walkingbear of Oklahoma City; and her sisters, Vanessa Smith of Oklahoma City, Denise Meshaya of Oklahoma City, Shauna Barnett of Oklahoma City, Michelle Snow and husband William of Oklahoma City, Cassandra Fixico of Oklahoma City, Karen Barnett of Oklahoma City, and Cindy Barnett of Oklahoma City, She also leaves behind many grandchildren, extended family members, and friends who will forever treasure her memory.
Those serving as pallbearers were Christopher Hawk, Jr., Ricky Burns, Matthew Sweezy, Andrew Barnett, Tsiannina Barnett, and Robert Sweezy, Jr.
Those serving as honorary pallbearers were Elin Hawk, Charles Proctor III, Lucas Nystrom, Jaden Snow, Jarrod Snow, Ray Smith, and Tyler Smith.
Gladys “Buttons” Deanne Barnett-Sweezy is remembered for her loving heart, her devotion to family, and the many ways she brought comfort and joy to those around her. Her life was a gift, and her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of her loved ones.
Services were under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah, Oklahoma, and officiated by Rev. Clarence Yaholar.
