Internal disputes cited as the reason for the suspension of OIC charter

OKMULGEE, Oklahoma–Muscogee (Creek) Nation Principal Chief James Floyd has issued an Executive Order on the Okmulgee Indian Community on Nov. 21. Executive Order No. 19-04 issued a proclamation of action declaring a national emergency in the Okmulgee Indian Community.
On Dec. 2, MCN Public Relations issued a press release on the executive order
The proclamation states that the community will be under the management of the Community Research and Development (CR&D) Department and the financial oversight of MCN Controller.
‘The community has failed to utilize its own internal grievance process and continues to show instability and an inability to communicate efficiently with each other,’ EO 19-04 said. ‘…and has pulled the Offices of Principal Chief, Attorney General and Council Members into internal disputes of the community.’
‘Establishment of oversight and control by the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Department of Community Research and Development and financial oversight of the Nation’s Controller is necessary and is in the best interests of the Okmulgee Indian Community.’
According to the executive order, the charter of the community is under suspension. Until the suspension is withdrawn, the community will be under the management of CR&D.
The press release issued by PR said that CR&D would be working on seating a board through an election and providing training for the community’s board and members.
Mvskoke Media staff reached out to OIC community and board members for comment. Media staff was told that OIC officials were advised not to speak with media and were advised to speak with CR&D.
As of Dec. 2 a posting on the OIC door states that the community will have a meeting on Dec. 9 at 6:30 p.m. Mvskoke Media will continue to update the story with new developments.
