OKMULGEE – Okmulgee Emergency Management recently teamed up with the Muscogee Nation Gaming Enterprises and the American Red Cross Tulsa Area Chapter to install free smoke alarms for Okmulgee families during the American Red Cross Sound the Alarm event on July 19.
Volunteers knocked on doors, installed more than 75 free smoke alarms, and provided safety information to more than 115 people. The team also helped residents create escape plans in the event of a fire in their homes.
Lorinda Driskill, one of the volunteers and the general manager of the Duck Creek Casino, felt privileged to be able to take part in the event.
“Helping to organize our volunteers and working alongside them is just one more way we can help make Okmulgee citizens safe in their homes,” Driskill said.
“Sound the Alarm is about more than installing smoke alarms. It’s about providing peace of mind and building a safer community for all generations.”
These statements were echoed by Jeff Moore, the Director of Okmulgee Emergency Management.
“Saving lives is important work, and I’m proud to see so many groups coming together so we can serve citizens throughout Okmulgee. I look forward to seeing what we can all accomplish as partners,” Moore said.
As a result of the event’s success, the Red Cross intends to organize another installation event in the future, according to a press release by the Tulsa Area Chapter.
