MVSKOKE RESERVATION- On Aug. 25, the Health, Education, and Welfare Committee and the Land, Natural Resources, and Cultural Preservation Committee held an in-person meeting. Passed legislation will go on to the next full council meeting, unless otherwise noted.
The committee addressed the following legislation, the interpretation of which is attributed to language in the bills:
NCR 26-006 A resolution of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Council opposing the construction and operation of any aluminum smelter upon the reservation lands of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation was postponed indefinitely 8-0. Representative Anna Marshall sponsored the bill.
During discussion, Representative Thomasene Osborn stated that while the legislation was assigned a number, they weren’t sure if it would be a National Council Resolution or a Tribal Resolution. TR 26-047 was passed during July’s Quarterly Session, a tribal resolution opposing construction and operation of any aluminum smelter on the Mvskoke Reservation. Rep. Osborn stated, “… we’re just finishing up this business.”
