OKMULGEE – The MCN National Council held a joint session of the Health, Education, and Welfare committee and the Business, Finance, and Justice committee on Tuesday, Sept. 22. The passed legislation will proceed to be voted on by the Full Council at the next regular session.
The committee addressed the following legislation, the interpretation of which is attributed to language in the bills:
TR 26-064 A tribal resolution of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation authorizing the Principal Chief to accept a settlement offer and execute a Tribal plaintiff release of all claims in order to settle claims against Juul Labs, Inc. Representative Darrell Proctor sponsored the legislation. It passed 9-0.
Rep. Proctor moved to go into executive session. There was no discussion on this legislation after the executive session.
According to the legislation, the Tribal plaintiffs in the case will receive $4,000,000 as a settlement. The Nation will receive a gross amount of $994,870.96. The Nation will receive a net amount of $666,563.54.
