HOLDENVILLE – Holdenville Creek Indian Community (HCIC) operations are now under the control of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation. Executive Order No. 26-03, released on Monday, Oct. 5, states that the Nation will assume authority over the HCIC until the community’s executive board is elected.

According to a post on the HCIC Facebook page, the HCIC Board of Trustees election was moved from Saturday, Sept. 12, to Saturday, Oct. 10. According to the EO, a new election date will now be set by the MCN Community Research and Development department. The open seats for the 2026 HCIC election are chairperson, vice-chairperson, secretary, treasurer, and parliamentarian.

Executive Order 26-03 states that, effective immediately, Community Research and Development will be in control of HCIC’s operations. This includes the community’s employees. MCN Press Secretary Jason Salsman said the EO was issued because Holdenville community members can not decide who they want to oversee the election.

“The community members can not come to a consensus on whether or not they want the Nation to oversee the election there, or if they want to oversee it themselves. We’re having to step in because they can’t come to an agreement on, as members, who they want overseeing their elections,” Salsman said.

According to Salsman, the Nation will then transfer authority back to the community once the elections have concluded.

Mvskoke Media reached out to HCIC for comment, but at the time of publication, HCIC has not replied.

According to the EO, MCN Community Research and Development will hold the special election for the community within 30 days of the executive order’s release. As of the time this story was published, a date has not been set yet.

Mvskoke Media will provide updates on this developing story.
