OKMULGEE – The jury trial in the felony case against Muscogee Creek Nation National Council Okmvlke District Seat A Rep. Robyn Whitecloud had been scheduled to begin on Oct. 19. Due to the absence of a court reporter, the trial has been moved back to an unspecified date. Judge Nalani Ching has scheduled a conference call for Oct. 22 to facilitate scheduling further court dates.
Whitecloud was charged with four felony counts of preventing or attempting to prevent performance of official acts on Jan. 16, as previously reported.
The week before the scheduled start of the trial, Whitecloud’s legal representation, Ryan Cannonie, filed two motions. A motion to dismiss and in the alternative compel discovery and continue trial setting, and a separate motion to impose jury instructions, were both filed on Oct. 13.
At the Oct. 19 court date, Judge Ching was ready to hear oral arguments on the motions, but Cannonie declined to proceed without a court reporter present. Arrangements were made for parties to meet via a conference call on Oct. 22 to schedule the next court date.
