Okmulgee ER set for $10M expansion

OKMULGEE, Oklahoma – A Muscogee (Creek) Nation National Council Emergency Session meeting was held in person and via teleconference on May 31 at the Mound Building.

The National Council addressed the following legislation, the interpretation of which is attributed to language in the bills:

TR 22-094 Authorizing the Principal Chief to execute a lease agreement with Okmulgee Public Schools for the use of a building at the Okmulgee High School for the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Lighthorse Police Department. The bill was sponsored by Representative Nelson Harjo Sr., which passed unanimously 13-0.

The building will be used for the MCN Lighthorse Police Investigations Unit and will be provided free of charge by Okmulgee Public schools.

TR 22-095 Authorizing the Principal Chief to submit a grant application to the Department of Health and Human Services Administration, Administration for Children and Families, Administration on Children, Youth, and Families-Family and Youth Services Bureau Street Outreach Grant Program for the benefit of the Mvskoke Nation Youth Services. Representative Anna Marshall sponsored the bill, which passed unanimously 13-0.

The Grant will award MCN in the amount of $426,635.00. If the Grant is received, MCN will match ten percent of it in the amount of $47,405.00.

The Grant will hire a Street Outreach Coordinator and Street Outreach Specialist. It will also provide outreach services, including essential need items, resource referral, and case management to runaway and homeless youth. MCN will partner with Okmulgee County Homeless Shelter to connect youth with emergency shelters or safe and stable housing.

NCA 22-071 A law of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation authorizing the expenditure of the American Rescue Plan Act Fiscal Recovery Funding for the benefit of the Department of Health. Rep. Marshall sponsored the bill, which passed unanimously 13-0.

The MCN Department of Health receives funds from ARPA of $10,288,000.00. The funds will be used for an emergency room expansion at the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Medical Center in Okmulgee.
