MACON, Ga. — Come celebrate southeastern Native American heritage during the 32nd annual Ocmulgee Indigenous Celebration, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14 and Sunday, Sept. 15 at Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park. Experience traditional cultural crafts, storytelling, programs, demonstrations, music, and dance, and shop Native American craft and food vendors.
According to Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park Superintendent Carla Beasley, the celebration is one park administrators look forward to every year.
“The southeastern Native American tribes have maintained their proud cultural identities, despite being forced from their Georgia homes nearly 200 years ago,” Beasley said. “We are honored to welcome their return to ancestral lands to share their culture with event visitors.”
The event is free to the public. All event parking is located at the Macon-Bibb County Health Plaza located at 171 Emery Highway. A free shuttle will run continuously between the parking area and the event starting at 9:15 am. No parking is available at the park. Are pets allowed?

According to the National Park Service, “Pets are allowed to travel down designated hiking trails. Pets are not allowed in the Visitor Center (service animals allowed). Pets are to be always kept on a leash. The leash cannot be longer than 6-foot long, and must be held and/or attached to the owner at all times.Do not allow pets to approach the water’s edge or swim in the creek or pond, there are alligators and snakes in the park. Do not leave pets unattended at any time while within the park, this includes leaving your pet in the car while you hike. Temperatures can prove dangerous to animals left in vehicles, especially during the summer months.”.
Is there seating throughout the park? Can I bring a chair?
