OKMULGEE – On July 22, the Business, Finance and Justice committee and the Land, Natural Resources, and Cultural Preservation committee held a joint session. Passed legislation is subject to full council approval during the regular session.
The committee addressed the following legislation, the interpretation of which is attributed to language in the bill:
TR 25-066 A tribal resolution of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation authorizing the Principal Chief to submit a grant application to the National Endowment for the Arts for the benefit of the Office of Communications passed with a vote of 8-1. Representative Dode Barnett sponsored the legislation. Representative Sandra Golden voted no.
If adopted, this resolution will allow for the Nation to submit an application for a grant worth $40,000 in order to create a screenplay of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation and the Trail of Tears.
