MIAMI, Fla. – The web series “Viewpoint” is an educational program that explores many topics including business, technology, health and education. Soon the series will make its way to Mvskoke Nation to feature a segment on the College of the Muscogee Nation (CMN). It was announced that an upcoming episode on the college will be filmed later in 2024. The episode will focus on the college’s efforts in bridging the gap in opportunities for Native students in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) field, while emphasizing the importance of Indigenous culture.
This new partnership will explore how education is powerful in personal and community development. One of CMN’s most important goals as an institution is to set up Native students for success, without having to sacrifice their cultural identity.
The segment CMN will be featured in will include interviews with faculty and students who will share their experiences with the tribal higher education institution. Exploring the relationship between STEM and Mvskoke learning, the segment will look at how the school equips students for the future, while saving space for the Mvskoke culture to be passed down to the next generation.
“Viewpoint” is hosted by actor Dennis Quaid, who is known for his roles in movies like “The Parent Trap” and “The Day After Tomorrow”. Other notable organizations that have been featured on “Viewpoint” include Royal Caribbean, Clemson University, Southwest Airlines and Godiva. The series tackles a variety of topics that also include environmental, travel and culture.
CMN President Dr. Monte Randall believes the collaboration will benefit everyone involved. He is excited to showcase the college’s goals and mission in providing a quality education for students and giving them just as many opportunities as students off the reservation.
“The collaboration between ‘Viewpoint’ and the College of the Muscogee Nation exemplifies the importance of two industry leaders coming together to support our individual goals,” Dr. Randall said. “This partnership will leverage the influential reach of ‘Viewpoint’ to showcase the progress of the College of the Muscogee Nation to provide innovative education to students while leading the charge in Mvskoke Language Revitalization. It’s a testament to the power of education in tribal nation building, ensuring that Native students can thrive in the 21st century without losing touch with their roots.”
