Council approves resolution to execute $1M settlement with Altria

The MCNC held an emergency session via teleconference in the Mound Building on Aug. 30. (MM File).

OKMULKE, Oklv. – The Muscogee (Creek) Nation’s National Council held an emergency session at the Mound Building on Aug 30.

The council addressed the following legislation, the interpretation of which is attributed to language in the bill:

TR 24-109 A tribal resolution of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation authorizing the Principal Chief to execute a Tribal Plaintiff Release of All Claims in order to settle claims against Altria. Speaker Randall Hicks sponsored the legislation, which was adopted nearly unanimously 9-1. Representative Joyce Deere voted against the legislation.

The $1,184,313.83 settlement is the estimated amount of the Nation’s share from the suit. The suit was originally filed on February 13, 2023 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern Division of California and alleged that the Altira Group Distribution Company partook in racketeering.

Hello This is Levi & Michelle Wacoche we are of cherokee & creek ancestry we are full blood Indians. My wife is disabled. We own a home but it is a fixer- upper. It needs new windows, new doors, my wife has spider bites all over her bc we can’t afford the spray to get rid of them. Or the sealant for the windows or the doors. We are hungry bc we don’t make enough money to properly feed ourselves. We need help from our Tribes!
Why doesn’t one of our Cheifs STAND UP! AND RUN FOR PRESIDENT! AND TAKE VACK OUR LAND THAT WAS STOLEN FROM US SO MANY DECADES AGO!
