DEWAR – On Dec. 14 the Dewar Indian Community held a “Christmas at Wal-mart” for the children in their community between the ages of 0-19 years old. Each child that signed up was able to get funds to spend at Wal-Mart, and they were able to get whatever items that they were wanting.

Dewar Indian Community Treasurer Jennifer Jones (Mvskoke) said that this was their second year hosting this event for their community. They had a good turnout this year with about 30 children participating.

Jones acknowledges that sometimes it can be hard for families during the Christmas season and their community knew that this would be a good opportunity to help out by doing a shopping spree at Wal-Mart.

Jones enjoys giving back and seeing the smiles on children’s faces. “We’re a small community, but we have a big heart and we’re willing to help our citizens,” Jones said.
