MVSKOKE RESERVATION — Fall is in full swing with activities for the whole family during the month of October.

From pumpkin patches to petting zoos and haunted hay rides, there is never a dull moment during the festive fall season.

The cooler weather also means more time outdoors for many people. Camping and hiking are some of Oklahoma’s most popular fall activities. Outdoor enthusiasts can find a list of parks, lodges, and trails available at this time of year on websites such as travelok.gov and alltrails.com.

Nature lovers can also keep an eye out for migrating Monarch butterflies. Peak migration season across Oklahoma begins in late September and continues through mid-October.

For those who are looking for Halloween thrills this October, here is a list of some spooky attractions and events happening locally:

  • Scare Tulsa Haunted Forest at Turkey Mountain – Oct. 16-17, 23-24, and 30-31
  • The Hex House – open on select days Sept. 25-Nov. 7
  • Psycho Path – open Fridays and Saturdays in October
  • Oklahoma Asylum – open Friday through Sunday, Oct. 2-Nov. 7
  • Twisted Roots Haunted Trail – open Fridays and Saturdays in October

Those looking for a milder experience might enjoy some of the other events happening this month:

  • Tulsa Native American Day – Oct. 12
  • BARKtoberfest at Lake Eufaula – Oct. 10

The Castle of Muskogee is offering its usual array of Halloween festivities with 11 different attractions in one. The Castle’s attractions range from “not so scary” to “scary” with a little something for everyone. The Haunted Castle Halloween Festival is open Fridays and Saturdays from October 2-31.

For a classic fall staple, head over to one of the local pumpkin patches.

Carmichael’s Pumpkin Patch in Bixby is celebrating 50 years of fall family fun with their usual lineup of pumpkin picking, a petting zoo, hay rides, a maze, and more. The pumpkin patch is open daily, Sep. 26 through Nov. 1, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Tulsa State Fair is bringing its signature “11 days of awesome” to town this month. The fair kicks off Oct. 1 and runs through Oct. 11.

The Tulsa State Fair features rides, games, animal exhibitions, concerts, vendors, and much more. The food, of course, is always one of the main attractions. Fairgoers can pick up sweet, savory, and downright bizarre treats at the hundreds of vendors across the fairgrounds.
