George J. Berryhill Obituary

Berryhill passed away at the age of 83

George J. Berryhill passed away in Yuma, AZ, on February 24, 2025, at the age of 83. He was born June 9, 1941 in Claremore, OK to John L. and Martha V. (Wind) Berryhill Nazworthy. George was baptized on August 12, 1951 by Rev. Bennie Wind (Uncle) at High Springs Baptist Church in Okemah. He served in the U.S. Army from June 1959 – May 1961. Afterwards he resided in Chicago, IL , before relocating back to Oklahoma to attend OSU Tech, where he earned 3 degrees and after graduating he moved to Phoenix, AZ. for many years before returning to Oklahoma. During which he served as Mekko of Thlopthlocco Tribal Town of Oklahoma in early 1980’s, and worked at the US Post Office in Tulsa, OK, where he retired after 30 years. He was an avid collector and curator of White Eagle.

George resided in Sapulpa, Ok for most of his retirement years before locating to Arizona to be with his son, Ben and daughter-in-law, Margaret, and their sons Peter, and Jonathan, who cared for him before his passing. He is preceded in death by both parents, three sisters, one brother; and two sons, Eric and Sean Berryhill; and one grandson, Xavier Berryhill. He is survived by one son, Benjamin C. Barajas and spouse Margaret of Yuma, AZ; two daughters, Sheila Alverza and spouse of Hawaii, Bridget M. Castillo and spouse Louie of Phoenix, AZ.; nine grandchildren:Elizah, Jacquelynn, Daniel, Peter, Jonathan, Rolando, Frankie, Jolene, and Dallas and ten great grandchildren, Oakland Ray, John,  Aylan, Aurora, Dominique, Faith, Messiah, Ava, Octavian, and Evangelina,  Along with one brother, Alfred Berryhill, Okemah, OK, two sisters, Sherry Martin, Okmulgee, OK, and Charlotte Berryhill, Sapulpa, OK.;  and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
