Merle Louise Bevenue-Wood Obituary

(Johnson Funeral Home)

Merle Louise Bevenue-Wood, known by many as Lousie or “Weasie”, was born January 2, 1947, in Tulsa, OK, to Merrill David Bevenue and Edna Irene (Rude) Phillips.

Louise was a proud member of the Sperry High School class of 1965. Soon after graduating, she chose to raise her family in Sperry and did so for many years. In 1987, after meeting the love of her life, Frank Wood, she moved to Texas and began a new life full of adventures, new experiences and new friendships. Thankfully, they were able to return to this area in 2005 after Frank’s retirement. Since that time, they have continued to build their family, attend Community of Christ church, attend as many Pow Wows as possible, nurture friendships, and create new ones up until her passing.

Louise left this earth on July 3, 2026, in a peaceful setting at home surrounded by members of her family and friends. Her love and gentle spirit will not be forgotten.

She was met in Heaven by her mother, Edna; biological father, Merrill; her father, Johnny; her brother, Johnny, Jr.; her stepsister, Emily; and a host of other friends and family.

She left the love of her life, Frank Wood of Collinsville; her daughters, Robyn Eskridge and husband, Cary of Tulsa, and Michelle Brown and husband, Chester of Sperry; her son, Benjamin Hickman and wife, Niki of Sapulpa; her stepdaughter, Michelle Bear Robe-Benally and husband, Aaron of Fort Collins, CO; stepson, Tobe Wood and wife, Ruby of Halifax, Nova Scotia; nine grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and many other relatives and friends.

Louise will be missed by all of us and let us not forget her laughter, and kindness she shared with everyone she knew.

Celebration of Life services for Merle Louise “Weasie” Bevenue-Wood, 79, of Collinsville, OK, were held Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Community of Christ Church in Sperry, OK with Elder Phyllis Gaddy officiating. Honorary Casket bearers were Caleb Stout, Nelson Yazzie, Ethan Brown, Anselm Yazzie, Camden Eskridge, and Asa Prairiechief.

Arrangements and services were entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, Sperry. Online condolences to the family can be made at johnsonsperry.com.
