MVSKOKE RESERVATION – On October 21, the Health, Education and Welfare/Land, Natural Resources and Cultural Preservation Joint Committee held an in-person meeting. All legislation passed through committee will be presented in the next session for full council approval.
The committee addressed the following legislation, the interpretation of which is attributed to language in the bills:
TR 25-103 A tribal resolution of the MCN authorizing the Principal Chief to execute a Memorandum of Understanding between the Eastern Oklahoma Veterans Affairs Health Care System and the MCN for the benefits of the MCN Veterans Affairs Department to use facility space and support services for homeless veterans passed with a vote of 8-0. Representative Leonard Gouge sponsored this legislation.
This MOU collaboration between MCN and EOVAHCS is intended to have case managers at the MCNVA’s Central Office to help administer the Veterans Administration Supported Housing (VASH) program. The EOVAHCS case managers will be able to have access to the facility and utilize the equipment of the office to work with homeless veterans. This will benefit the vulnerable participants by assisting them with meeting obligations of living independently and succeeding in the VASH program, as stated in the bill.
NCA 25-103 A law of the MCN authorizing the expenditure of grant funds awarded from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for the benefit of the MCN Veterans Affairs Service Office passed with a vote of 8-0. Rep. Gouge sponsored this legislation.
The MCN Veteran Affairs Office was awarded $770,795 and according to the bill these funds will provide housing vouchers to eligible veterans who are homeless or at a risk of homelessness.
