MVSKOKE RESERVATION – The Muscogee (Creek) National Council held the Business, Finance and Justice Committee session at the Mound Building on May 8.
Passed legislation is subject to full council approval during the regular session.
The committee addressed the following legislation, the interpretation of which is attributed to language in the bills:
TR 25-032 A tribal resolution of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation authorizing the Principal Chief to execute performance contracts with WME Talent Agency for musical entertainment at the Muscogee (Creek) Nation 2025 Festival was postponed indefinitely by the committee. The resolution was sponsored by Representative Robert Hufft. It was postponed indefinitely with a vote of 4-0.
This resolution would have allowed the creation of contracts to bring musicians from WME Talent Agency to the Muscogee (Creek) Nation 2025 Festival. It was postponed because WME had already agreed to a previously-made contract.
TR 25-034 A tribal resolution of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation authorizing the Principal Chief to execute an attorney-client agreement for legal services with the law firms of Fields Han Cunniff PPLC and DiCello Levitt LLP on behalf of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation was passed by the committee. The law was sponsored by Representative Nelson Harjo Sr. It was passed with a vote of 4-0.
If adopted, this resolution will allow the Muscogee (Creek) Nation to potentially pursue legal action against Meta Platforms, Inc.social media platforms under Meta’s control alleging they have created a public health emergency.
According to the legislation, the MCN is seeking to secure advice, consultation, and any necessary legal services relating to litigation against social media platforms Meta Platforms, Inc., et. al. in the multidistrict litigation identified as In re: Social Media Adolescent Addiction/Personal Injury Products Liability Litigation (MDL No. 3047).
NCA 25-046 A law of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation authorizing a supplement appropriation in the amount of $1,123,000 for the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Tribal Energy Program for energy assistance related services for Fiscal Year 2025, was approved by the committee. The funding request came from the committee on Health, Education, and Welfare on May 8 in order to pay for air conditioners and other energy assistance issues.
