TULSA, Okla. – The Tulsa Drillers were transformed into the “Tvlse Drillers” for Muscogee (Creek) Nation Night during a home game against the Springfield Cardinals on May 23. Teal jerseys with the name Tvlse were worn by the Drillers. The home game was the first of three straight nights featuring fireworks after the final inning.
Former National Council Representative Pearl Thomas sang the National Anthem in the Mvskoke language, and the Muscogee Men’s Honor Guard presented the colors. Mvskoke citizen Brian OnTheHill designed the Driller’s teal Tvlse jerseys. Miss Muscogee (Creek) Nation Janaya McIntosh and Junior Miss Olivia Beaver attended the game, taking photos and receiving autographs from players.
According to MCN Principal Chief Hill, the tribe has a strong relationship with the Drillers, who know whom’s reservation they play on.

“Having that partnership with the Tulsa Drillers, it’s amazing. They like to work with us. That’s the way it’s always been. They understand that this is our original home place, which used to be Tvlse town,” Chief Hill said. “You get to meet everyone, you get to meet a lot of Creek citizens. I’m glad they were able to show up too.”
Chief Hill remarked that his favorite part of the night is seeing Mvskoke culture exhibited for the crowds and meeting citizens. Traditionally the Principal Chief throws the first pitch of the ballgame. This year, Chief Hill decided to break that tradition.

“Usually I just go out there and throw, but I went out to the lawn and picked about seven kids to come down here and go with me to stand on the mound while I throw it. Right before I was given the ball, I picked one of the kids to throw it for me. I think it’s special for them and it’s all about Muscogee (Creek) Nation.” Chief Hill said.
