OKMULGEE, Okla.- Mvskoke Media and the College of the Muscogee Nation Extension Program co-produced program “Mvskoke Gardening” is back for a second season. The popular Youtube program aired its first show of the new season on Saturday, May 3.

The CMN Extension Program Coordinator Chris Azbell is the driving force behind the creation of the show and partners with host CMN Extension Educator Courtney Natseway. They both reflected on the show’s first season and what’s ahead for this coming season on a recent visit with LiveWire.

“We had an excellent response, not only from our citizens, but from the general community at large. A lot of positive feedback,” Azbell stated. “I was at a meeting a few months back and actually the OSU Master Gardeners are actually utilizing our videos for continuing education. So they’re using our videos to meet some of their continuing education requirements. That’s a big, I think, that’s a big feather in our hat in terms of the quality of the videos and how they resonate with people.”

Natseway also shared how the show connects with viewers. She shared, “I will say it’s pretty crazy every now and then we’ll be out in the wild at an event like the farmers market or a conference and we’ll run into people who have seen the show.”

“Usually people remember something very specific, like they’ll remember an insect that we talked about or some kind of plant or some kind of bean that we mentioned. It’s just really interesting to see what resonates with people or what sticks with them.”

The first season of “Mvskoke Gardening” focused on general gardening tips along with cultural segments with most episodes filmed in the CMN’s campus community garden. Season two will focus on Mvskoke citizens’ gardens as well as diverse locations across the Mvskoke Reservation.

The CMN Extension Program is hosting volunteer days at the CMN garden Fridays from noon- 4p.m. Citizens interested in gardening are welcome to come out, meet Courtney and help in the garden.

Mvskoke Gardening is currently seeking out Mvskoke citizens who would like to have their garden featured on the program. If you are interested in participating, email the CMN Extension program at  Chris.Azbell@cmn.edu, or call 918-549-2861.
