OKMULGEE, Oklahoma – On May 24 Mvskoke Radio brought on Winnie Cooper for a live studio performance in downtown Okmulgee. Cooper last appeared on Mvskoke Radio in June 2022. Just like last time, Winnie brought out her guitar and sang. During her latest appearance, she provided an update on her music career, as well as shared about exciting new opportunities on the horizon.

Cooper is a 22 year-old Mvskoke musician from Henryetta and now lives in Muskogee, Okla. She took a short break this past year from writing and making music, but has recently been drawn back to it. She will be back in the studio soon to record new songs.

“I took a break from music for a little bit, and then did some more writing here recently,” Copper said. “I’m actually going to the studio on the 12th to start working on a new song.”

Cooper has sung country and Christian music for a while. If you listen to her now, you will hear her musical style branch out into different genres. Music helps her find a voice and it allows her to express herself. Cooper’s goal when singing is to sing from the soul.

“That’s really just the main goal for me.” Cooper said, “It’s just to sing from my soul.”

Cooper said that she felt that she had always sung what she was expected to sing. Now she is composing more original works with a folk style. Her new single is called “Surrounding Me”.

When asked by Mvskoke Media Multimedia Producer Morgan Taylor if she still produces music in a Christian style, Cooper replied, “No, I’m doing my original work, more of my style.”

Winnie will be taking more opportunities to promote herself by performing live gigs this year. For those interested in listening to Cooper perform, she will be featured in the upcoming 2023 Muscogee Nation Festival. You can catch Winnie live on Saturday, June 24th at the Amphitheater.
