OKMULGEE, Oklahoma – The Muscogee (Creek) Nation National Council held its Inauguration Ceremony for the 22nd Session Jan. 15 and was made available to the public virtually. In-person attendance was limited to MCN elected officials, their guests, cabinet members and judges.
During the ceremony the National Council elected its officers, Speaker for the legislation branch for the Nation was Okmulgee District Representative Will Lowe with Tulsa District Representative Robert Hufft elected as Second Speaker.
Tukvpvtce District Representative Thomasene Yahola Osborn was selected as Sergeant at Arms after winning a coin toss due to a split vote between Yahola Osborn and Creek District Representative Joe Hicks.
The Council held an Emergency Session Jan. 17 to select committee members.
The Health, Education and Welfare Committee will consist of Joyce Deere, Mary Crawford, Leonard Gouge, Robert Hufft and Anna Marshall. Deere will serve as Chairperson and Crawford will serve as Vice-Chair.
Land, Natural Resources and Cultural Preservation will be headed by Darrell Proctor as Chairperson with Nelson Harjo Sr. as Vice-Chair. LNC Committee members include Galen Cloud, Joe Hicks and Charles McHenry.
Thomasene Yahola Osborn will serve as Chairperson for the Business, Finance & Justice Committee with Sandra Golden as Vice-Chair. Patrick Freeman Jr., Randall Hicks and Mark Randolph form the rest of the BF&J Committee.
