Native Advantage announced as first tribally owned Medicare Advantage plan

TULSA — The Muscogee (Creek) Nation announced the launch of Native Advantage on Oct. 15 during a press conference at the Council Oak Comprehensive Healthcare complex.

Native Advantage is the first and only Tribally owned Medicare Advantage plan in the country as it is owned and operated by the Muscogee (Creek) Nation.

“Native Advantage reflects years of hard work, planning, and collaboration to create more healthcare choices and better access to services for Medicare eligible individuals across our communities. This new plan is another step forward in fulfilling our responsibility to care for our citizens and invest in healthier, stronger communities for generations to come,” said Principal Chief David Hill.

Native Advantage is available to all Medicare-eligible individuals in Hughes, McIntosh, Mayes, Muskogee, Okfuskee, Okmulgee, Rogers, Seminole, Tulsa, and Wagoner counties. Individuals do not need to be Tribal citizens to qualify, but must already be enrolled with Medicare Part A and Part B.

Native Advantage, like other Medicare Advantage HMO plans, bundles Part A and Part B coverage and includes additional benefits like prescription drug coverage, preventative care, and wellness services. Other benefits can include expanded dental and vision services and medical transportation rides.

MCN Secretary of Health Shawn Terry explained the plan allows Native people on Medicare to keep seeing doctors and other providers within the Tribal healthcare system.

“What really sparked this as a concept was that many of the national Medicare Advantage plans were keeping our patients and our citizens away from our own facilities. They were moving them away from their own doctors. We couldn’t let that continue,” said Terry.

Native Advantage Inc. was established through NCA 26-022 during the quarterly session on Jan. 31, 2026. The legislation to create Native Advantage Inc. was sponsored by Lucian Tiger III and passed with a vote of 15-0. Native Advantage is overseen by a Board of Directors and is subject to the approval of the National Council.

Open enrollment for Native Advantage begins Oct. 15 and runs through Dec. 7. For more information on eligibility or how to enroll, visit nativeadvantage.com, call (800) 544-0338, or email information@nativeadvantage.com.
