UETVMKV, Oklv.- On Friday, Sept. 13 the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Southern Regional Office in Wetumka held a program fair. The event offered citizens an opportunity to learn about the variety of services offered at the office and connect with office staff.
Program fairs are a necessary and social way to get information out to MCN citizens about the scope of services offered by the office. Sometimes called the “Little Creek Nation,” the Southern Regional Office includes most of the services found in Okmulgee.
Many tribal service offices at the SRO hold hours Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., including Human Services, Tribal TANF, Transit, and the Center for Victim Service. Other offices maintain a presence with hours throughout the week.
Angienette Nunnally’s priority is for citizens in the Southern Regional Area to understand they can find what they need close to home. As the Site Coordinator at the Southern Regional Office, she shared, “My main goal for all our citizens in the Southern Regional area is to walk in our office and receive services they request without having to go to the Okmulgee location. I hope to be able to accomplish this in the near future with all the dedication of the employees and their prospective departments.”
Nunnally expected to see anywhere from 60 to 80 citizens come in on Friday, however she shared they might have a lower turnout this year as many elder citizens in the area went to Macon, Ga to attend the annual Ocmulgee Indigenous Celebration.
Okfuskee District seat B National Council Representative Sandra Golden also attended the fair and was able to meet with citizens. For Rep. Golden the event is an opportunity to hear citizens’ needs and get feedback. She also explained that resource access is a major concern for citizens south of I-40. “It’s very different from the north side of I-40 to the south side of I-40 because we have less resources. And I think a lot of the programs just don’t really think about the differences. So when SRO has something like this it absolutely is important for the citizens.”
She also shared that MCN Community Research and Development will soon have staff assigned to the southern area.
In addition to the program fairs, Nunnally shared that she has begun visiting community meetings across the reservation “So we have been throughout the reservation to almost all the community centers just to let them know that if they have family or they have friends down in this area this office is available to them. So it’s just we’re here to help wherever we’re needed.”
The SRO is open from 8am-5pm and doesn’t close for lunch. For more information about the services offered at the site, contact Angienette Nunnally at 405-452-1104. For a full list of the services offered, visit Southern Regional Office.
