MVSKOKE RESERVATION – On Nov. 12, the Business, Finance and Justice committee and the Health, Education and Welfare committee held a joint meeting. Passed legislation will go on to the next full council meeting, unless otherwise noted.
The committee addressed the following legislation, the interpretation of which is attributed to language in the bill:
TR 25-117 A tribal resolution of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation authorizing the Principal Chief to effectuate and execute the settlement of a lawsuit between the Muscogee (Creek) Nation and Ross Group, et al. for the benefit of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Department of Health was passed with a vote of 6-0. Representative Dode Barnett sponsored the legislation.
If adopted, this resolution will allow the Principal Chief, or another individual chosen by him to represent the Nation, to mediate a settlement with Ross Group, as Ross Group has, according to the legislation, expressed interest in settling the lawsuit between the two entities by nonbinding mediation.
The lawsuit has been ongoing since 2020, and involves several companies involved in the design and construction of the Eufaula Indian Health Center.
