Tvlse, Oklv. – If you’re dreaming of an Indigenous Christmas Tvlse’s Indigichic is back with a variety of Mvskoke artisans to make sure you jingle (cone) your way to the top of the nice list.
Indigichic is a seasonal popup shop nestled in a bright, vibrant space next to Southwest Trading Co. Sales Associate Michaela Pipestem (Wahzhazhe/Otoe/Eastern Band Cherokee) says the shop was created to highlight Native artists so different tribes could be represented.
This year the collective features 34 Indigenous artists from a diversity of Native Nations, providing a venue that spotlights artisanal wearable art as well as a dynamic, sensory shopping experience for the general public.
That can be indispensable for Native artists who traditionally don’t have the same access as other artists to retail experiences with a larger reach.

“Indigenous representation by retail outlets like Indigichic is important because it provides a platform for designers and artists to tell our stories to a broader audience. It provides visibility and authentic representation for Indigenous artists, helping us to expand our community,” according to Leslie Deer of L.A.Deer Apparel (Mvskoke).
Okcate Evita Smith McCommas of Scarlet Garlands (Mvskoke,Fuswvlke) states “Fashion and art are powerful tools of expression and agents of change. Venues that showcase Native designers and artists influence the narrative of Native fashion and art, underscoring that Native cultures are not monolithic but nuanced and unique while directly supporting these artisans.”

“IndigiChic provides an invaluable platform for Native artists like myself by showcasing a beautifully curated blend of Indigenous fashion and wearable art. It’s not just a store; it’s a celebration of our culture and creativity, connecting us with a broader audience who value authenticity and craftsmanship,” says Amanda Rutland (Mvskoke/Semvnole, Wotkvlke).
Indigichic, located at 1306 E 11th St Suite C in Tvlse, is open 12PM-4PM Thursday and Friday, 10AM-6PM Saturday, and 10AM-4PM Sunday, with extended hours for the holidays: 8AM-8PM December 20-22, 10AM-6PM December 23, and Christmas Eve 10AM-4PM. The shop will be available through mid-January 2025.
Why such long-winded writing? Do you know your audience? My Auntie Lucinda, whose first language is Mvskoke can’t wade through all this. Make it simple. Make it Mvskoke.
