MUSKOGEE, Ok. – The Higher Learning Commission withdrew Bacone College’s accreditation effective July 17, 2024 according to a public disclosure notice published to the HLC website.
According to the notice,
“On June 27, 2024, the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) acted to withdraw the accreditation of
Bacone College in Muskogee, Oklahoma. HLC took this action because it determined that the institution was out of compliance with HLC requirements. Withdrawal of accreditation is an adverse action that is subject to appeal prior to becoming final. The deadline for the institution to file a notice of intent to appeal the action to withdraw accreditation was July 16, 2024. The institution did not submit a notice of intent to appeal to by this date. Therefore, the institution has forfeited its opportunity to appeal the action, and the action to withdraw accreditation is now final. The withdrawal of the institution’s accreditation is effective as of July 17, 2024…Credits and degrees earned from the institution through this date remain accredited. “
Bacone College published the following statement to its website concerning the withdrawal.
“Bacone college is not closing and plans to graduate another class of our outstanding students again this May. Like many small non-profit colleges, Bacone has experienced several difficult years. The Board of Trustees are committed to the future of this historic college, and believe that Bacone will continue to provide a quality education for our students for decades to come. The Staff and Trustees will make no further comment at this time, but will be providing a detailed revitalization plan in the near future.”
As of the publishing of this article, the Bacone College website was still operational.
