BFJ/LNC passes travel expenditures for Oce Vpofv supporters

The MCN National Council held a Business, Finance and Justice/Land, Natural Resources and Cultural Preservation committee session via teleconference and in person on Sep. 24. (MM File)

OKMULKE, Oklv. – The Muscogee (Creek) National Council held a Business, Finance and Justice/Land, Natural Resources and Cultural Preservation joint committee meeting on Aug. 20.

The Council addressed the following legislation, the interpretation of which is attributed to language in the bills:

NCA 24-098 A law of the MCN repealing NCA 07-332 (A law of the MCN authorizing a special appropriation to the MCN Communications Department for the 2008 MCN Annual Calendar.) Representative Nelson Harjo Sr. sponsored this legislation, which passed 8-0.

If the legislation is adopted, the funding will switch departments from MCN Cultural and Humanities to the MCN Language Department.

NCA 24-099 A law of the MCN authorizing an appropriation for the Hickory Ground oral argument journey for justice to save Oce Vpofv located in Atlanta, Georgia. Representative Darrell Proctor sponsored this legislation, which passed 8-0.

If the legislation is adopted,  Hickory ground members, Mvskoke Etvlwv, Ceremonial Ground Mekkos, Warriors and tribal citizens will go to Atlanta, Georgia to voice their support for Oce Vpofv. According to the bill, supporters wish to establish their presence in the area and make their position clear that they are committed to protecting sacred sites and that “any further destruction of Mvskoke sacred sites will not be tolerated.” The total cost for traveling expenses is $43,157.
