OKMLUGEE, Oklahoma –On April 29, Muscogee (Creek) Nation Family Violence Prevention Program will hold a “Cruising in Teal Car Parade” in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The parade will take place at the Claude Cox Omniplex from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

MCN Family Violence Prevention Program Victim Advocate Allison McCall says that all MCN Departments are encouraged to participate in the event.

The color teal is used to represent awareness of sexual assault and abuse.

“We wanted to take one step further in raising awareness in sexual assault by decorating cars in teal,” McCall said. “It’s about educating and giving us the idea of the perspective that people have of sexual assault awareness month.”

“Seeing the community and the MCN departments take part in it, it’s a community effort to raise awareness for sexual assault.”

MCN FFVP will award first, second and third places with pizza.

“I think it’s a good idea to educate people and see what they can come up with,” McCall said. “There’s nothing fun about sexual assault but we are trying to raise awareness in away that haven’t before.

Native American women are 2.5 times more likely to experience sexual assault than any other ethnic group in the U.S.

If anybody is a victim of sexual assault or knows someone needing help please contact MCN Family Violence Prevention Program 24/7 on call advocate at 918-732-7979.
