HEW passes legislation for COVID-19 individual assistance

OKMULGEE, Oklahoma — A Muscogee (Creek) Nation National Council Health, Education and Welfare Committee meeting was held June 26.

All passed legislation went before the full Council during the regular session June 26.

HEW addressed the following legislation, the interpretation of which is attributed to language in the bills:

TR 21-102 Executing a quick confirmation agreement with Hilton Dallas Lincoln Centre for the Muscogee (Creek) Nation At Large gathering. Sponsored by Representative Mary Crawford.

The Quick Confirmation Agreement waives the Muscogee (Creek) Nation’s sovereign immunity for the Nation’s At Large gathering in July 2021 which will take place at the Hilton Dallas Lincoln Centre. Passed 3-1.

NCA 21-071 Amending MCNCA Title 35, Chapter 7 entitled “Disaster Act”, authorizing a supplemental appropriation to the Disaster Assistance FY 2021 Budget. Sponsored by Rep. Adam Jones III.

The Disaster Assistance program assists households with at least one enrolled Muscogee (Creek) citizen with a loss of furniture, clothing, groceries, housing and emergency shelter costs. Disaster must have occurred within one year of application date. The appropriation of $250,000.00 is to provide supplemental funding for the Disaster Assistance FY 2021 budget. Passed 4-0.

NCA 21-077 Authorizing the expenditure of American Rescue Plan Act (“ARPA”) funds from the United States Department of the Treasury to establish the COVID-19 impact relief individual assistance program. Sponsored by Rep. Lucian Tiger III. Co-sponsored by Rep. Mary Crawford, Rep. Joyce Deere, Rep. Patrick Freeman Jr., Rep. Joseph Hicks, Rep. Randall Hicks, Rep. Robert Hufft, Rep. James Jennings, Rep. Adam Jones III, Rep. William Lowe, Rep. Anna Marshall, Rep. Charles McHenry and Rep. Darrell Proctor.

The Muscogee (Creek) Nation received federal funds of $424,351,068.50 from the American Rescue Plan Act to assist issues regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and support immediate stabilization for households and businesses. Every Muscogee (Creek) citizen who is eligible as of September 30, 2021 may apply for financial assistance in the amount of $2,000.00 through the Covid-19 Impact Relief Individual Assistance Program, regardless of age, income or residency. Passed 4-0.

    Mvskoke Media is following the ARP funding story as it develops. As of July 13, we have not received any information on when and where citizens can apply, nor has there been any information given on the qualifications. Mvto!

    One of my daughters was kept out of any contact with us and has been abandoned for the best part of the past year here and there bring her pack cigs and 20 dollars he has kept every dime of stimulas and taxes .oh I forgot she has epilepsy and solely depends on him for all decisions especially financial is there anyway possible for her to recieve the past stimulas tribal monies and make sure she gets this one besides her two also

    We have to fill out an application? If everyone gets it regardless of age, I come; then why do we have to apply. Some don’t have access to a computer, so will you be able to do a phone call or send out applications?? Just curious. September 30?? I am thankful, but why so far away??
