SAPULPA, Okla. – Ryan Matthew Matthias was arrested on Tuesday, Nov. 5 on charges regarding online child sexual abuse material. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) initially began the investigation from a tip from the Sapulpa Police Department on Sept. 12. Matthias is currently charged with two counts of child pornography, the purchase of child pornography and computer crimes.
OSBI Special Agents reviewed online files from a user where explicit images were discovered. The user was identified as 48 year old Matthias, an instructor at Central Technology Center. Matthias is also a former Creek County law enforcement officer. The OSBI Internet Crimes Against Children Act (ICAC) Task Force, Sapulpa Police and Muscogee (Creek) Nation Lighthorse Police Department served a search warrant at Matthais’ residence and workplace. Digital devices believed to be used by Matthias were recovered during the search.
Matthias is not a Mvskoke citizen, however the crimes he is charged with were committed within the MCN’s jurisdictional boundary. According to OSBI Public Information Officer Hunter McKee, Lighthorse assisted with warrants, and processed the suspect. In a public statement on the OSBI’s official Facebook page, they acknowledged and thanked the partnering agencies that assisted in the case.
The Muscogee (Creek) Nation Lighthorse Police Department released the following statement on their Facebook page regarding their officers’ role in arresting Matthias.
“Great job to all involved! Shout out to our Patrol Officers and Investigators who assisted with the search warrant service and arrest of this individual.”
The MCN Lighthorse Police Officers and Investigators involved in this investigation include Captain Leslie Vaughan, Captain Michael Fish, Lead Investigator Preston Flores, Lead Investigator Anthony Thompson, Investigator Breanna Fierro, Investigator Malissa Beaver, Investigator Robert Jackson, Sergeant Nathan Pickering and Corporal Victor Gomez.
Matthias is currently being held in the Creek County Jail. His court date was set for Nov. 6.
