OKMULGEE, Okla. – The Muscogee (Creek) Nation National Council held the monthly Land, Natural Resources, and Cultural Preservation Committee session at the Mound Building on July 11.
Passed legislation is subject to Full Council approval during the Regular Session.
The committee addressed the following legislation, the interpretation of which is attributed to language in the bills:
TR 23-068 Authorizing the Principal Chief to execute a MCN Department of Housing Contract with Harris Contractors. Representative Galen Cloud sponsored the legislation, which passed 4-0.
Harris Construction will build two homes for $406,311, using NAHASDA Homeownership funds.
TR 23-069 Authorizing the Principal Chief to execute a MCN Department of Housing Contract with McGuire Brothers LLC. Representative Joseph Hicks sponsored the legislation, which passed 4-0.
McGuire Brothers will perform civil work on Oak Acres for $586,340 using NAHASDA Homeownership funds.
NCA 23-046 Establishing a new Title 16, Chapter 4, entitled “Culture and Humanities Department” and appropriating funds. Rep. Cloud sponsored the legislation, which passed as a substitute and was forwarded to BFJ for a funding source 4-0.
A start-up cost of $273,148 will be appropriated for the new department. It is still seeking a funding source.
NCA 23-047 Appropriating funds to create the Mvskoke Language Liaison Program. Rep. Cloud sponsored the legislation, which passed and was forwarded to BFJ for a funding source 4-0.
A start up cost of $325,627 will be appropriated for the new program. It is still seeking a funding source.
