OKMULKE, Oklv. – The Muscogee (Creek) Nation National Council held the monthly Business, Finance and Justice / Land, Natural Resources & Cultural Preservation Joint Committee session at the Mound Building on May 13.
Passed legislation is subject to full council approval during the regular session.
The committee addressed the following legislation, the interpretation of which is attributed to language in the bills:
NCA 24-072 A law of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation appropriating funds in the amount of $60,000 for the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Marker Project within the State of Florida passed with a vote of 7-1. It was sponsored by Representative Darrell Proctor of McIntosh District. According to Patricia Kilian, the funding source will be the Interest on Permanent Fund.
The funds will be used for historical markers to mark the Mvskoke homelands in present-day north Florida.
NCA 24-073 A law of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation creating a new law in MCNCA Title 30 Chapter 2, entitled “Legislative Districts” was proposed. It proposed to rename the Tulsa District boundary jurisdiction to Tvlse District. The vote passed with a unanimous vote of 8-0. It was sponsored by Representative Leonard Gouge and co-sponsored by Representative Robert Hufft, both of the Tulsa District.
According to the bill, the purpose of the name change is to incorporate the Muscogee language. It will not change county boundaries nor names for the State of Oklahoma.
