Matthew Lorin Henneha was born at the Pawnee Indian Hospital on Tuesday, February 26, 1975. He walked on from this earth on Monday, October 7, 2024 at the age of 49.

Matt is survived by his mother, Valeria Littlecreek of Okemah, sister, Ada and Jeremy Pigeon of Okemah, daughter, Lorin Henneha of Tulsa, partner, Julie Hubbard of Tahlequah, niece and nephew, friends, and law enforcement and OSU family.

Matt was a citizen of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, affiliated with the Nuyaka tribal town, and of the wind clan. He grew up singing at Stomp Dances, playing stickball, participated in Fancy Dance at powwows and was active in the Native American Church. He grew to become a culturally-strong Native American man.

Matt graduated “Best Dressed” and football running back from Okemah High School in 1993. He served his country in the United States Army Reserve and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice at Oklahoma State University where he proudly pledged Sigma Phi Epsilon. Matt spent his career protecting students, his tribe and his community as a seasoned law enforcement officer.

He started with Jenks Police Department in 2001. He served his tribe as a Muscogee (Creek) Nation Lighthorse officer, as well as part-time employee at Oral Roberts University before moving on as a full-time officer at the Southeast Campus of Tulsa Community College where he was promoted in 2022 from Lieutenant to Captain.

Matt was a humanitarian, helping animals and those less able. Matt loved blues and barbecue. He was the Pokes’ biggest champion. He had charm and wit like no other. He did not overspend, yet gave in abundance. He loved his daughter, his dog Jackson, his family and if you were his friend, you were his brother. Fly High Matthew.

A visitation is set for 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 14, 2024 at New Spring Assembly of God Church, located at 2907 West 108th Place South in Jenks, Oklahoma 74037.

A funeral service is set for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at New Spring Assembly of God Church in Jenks, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at the Harjo-Henneha Family Cemetery in Okemah, Oklahoma.
