MCN to be designated as Purple Heart Reservation to honor award recipients

OKMULGEE, Okla. – The Muscogee (Creek) Nation National Council held a Health, Education and Welfare/Land, Natural Resources and Cultural Preservation joint committee meeting Aug 22.

The Council addressed the following legislation, the interpretation of which is attributed to language in the bills:

TR 23-082 A tribal resolution of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation authorizing the construction of three new child care facilities for the MCN office of child care. Representative Darrell Proctor sponsored this legislation, which passed 9-0. This will be presented to the full council at the regular session.

The child care facilities in Wetumka, Okemah and Eufaula are requesting a grant to help with construction to build a new child care facility. Each requested $5,000,000 in funds.

TR 23-084 A tribal resolution of the MCN designating the MCN reservation as a Purple Heart Reservation. Representative Mark Randolph sponsored this legislation, which passed 9-0. This will be presented to the full council at the regular session.

Purple Heart Reservations will recognize military service members wounded or killed in action,  as well as their families. According to MCN, there are 171 Mvskoke citizens that have been awarded the Purple Heart medal, 59 were killed in action or died from wounds in action and 112 were wounded by an instrument of war, or by an enemy during conflict.
