The MCNC Business, Finance & Justice and Land, Natural Resource & Cultural Preservation subcommittees held a joint meeting in person and via teleconference in the Mound Building on Feb. 17. (MM File).

OKMULGEE, Okla. – The Muscogee (Creek) National Council held the Business, Finance and Justice & Land, Natural Resource, and Cultural Preservation Joint Committee session at the Mound Building on Feb. 17.

Passed legislation is subject to full council approval during the regular session.

The committees addressed the following legislation, the interpretation of which is attributed to language in the bills:

NCR 25-026 A law of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation authorizing the expenditure of grant funds awarded from the U.S. Department of Commerce National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) Tribal Broadband Connectivity Program Office (TBCPO), to the amount of $41,216,619.00, for the benefit of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Tribal Utility Authority, was passed by the joint committee. The resolution was sponsored by Representative Dode Barnett of the Creek District. It was passed with a vote of 9-0.

If approved, this law will allow the Muscogee (Creek) Nation to deploy broadband and internet technology services within the borders of the Muscogee Nation reservation, giving better internet access to citizens.
