OKMULGEE, Oklahoma– In remembrance of the children lost and those who survived the terrible times of boarding schools, there will be a prayer and walk at the Claude Cox Complex outside pavilion.

Miss Muscogee (Creek) Nation Claudia McHenry’s platform during her reign is to promote cultural identity.

“She decided to do this walk in remembrance of the boarding school children,” MCN Pageant Coordinator LuAnn Bear said.

McHenry is asking for those who plan to attend bring pictures of loved ones who were affected by boarding schools to carry while on the walk. As this walk will be a time to reflect on the impact boarding schools still have on survivors, their families and generations of Muscogee people even to this day. People will also be able to make signs for the walk.

There will be an opening prayer at 4:30 p.m. and guest speakers which include; Ted Isham, Chebon Kernell and Allison Black. The walk will begin at 5:30 p.m. starting under the pavilion at the Claude Cox Onmiplex and will go around the rodeo grounds ending back at the pavilion.

There will be light snacks and water at the end of the walk. Everyone is welcomed, the 2022 Remembrance Walk will be on March 11.
