OKMULGEE, Okla. – A citizen of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, William D. Lowe, has been elected President of the American Indian Chamber of Commerce of Oklahoma, the AICCO announced on Dec. 17.
The American Indian Chamber of Commerce of Oklahoma (AICCO) is a non-profit organization within Oklahoma that works to, in their own words, “to provide a format for American Indian entrepreneurs to promote their business, for corporations to connect with American Indian businesses, to act as a liaison on tribal economic development, and to offer the best in resources, training, and networking for the American Indian business owner.”
William D. Lowe, a Marine Corps veteran and former Speaker of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation National Council, is one of four new state board officers for the AICCO, as its current leadership will be stepping down at the end of 2024.
He will be taking over as President, with Kendra Bennett (Cherokee) stepping in as Vice President, Amber Sharp (Cherokee) as Secretary, and Nathan Hart (Cheyenne) as Treasurer.
Lowe is excited to step into his new role as he took to social media on Dec. 17 to express his gratitude and excitement. “I look forward to working alongside our incredible board, members, and partners to support Native businesses, strengthen economic opportunities, and amplify the voices of our communities. Together, we will continue building a vibrant future for Indian Country. Thank you for this opportunity to serve.” Lowe said.
This also comes as David Bible, Muscogee citizen and owner of the Southwest Trading Company in Tulsa, OK, has been announced as a state board member and the Vice President of the Tulsa chapter of the AICCO, with Warren Harjo (Muscogee) serving as President, Les McGee (Cherokee) serving as Treasurer, and Jordan Caldwell serving as Secretary.
