OKMULGEE, Oklahoma– The Muscogee Nation Elder Services and Diabetes Program have sponsored together the 2021 Senior Games June 22.
The Senior Games have returned after missing last year due to the pandemic. This will be the 9th annual senior games. Scheduled of events throughout the day will be bean bag toss, jacks, free throw contest, horseshoes and softball throw.
“We will provide snacks throughout the day and a boxed lunch for them to take home,” Senior Services Office Manager Christy Carson said. “We will have medals for first, second and third place in each division. We divide it up between men and women, ages 55-64 and 65 and older.”
Senior Services is directed under Angela Fish, they hold different events throughout the year to get the elders together to enjoy each others company. The senior games allow the elders to compete, and Carson said they love the competition. This is the first event they are able to host since the pandemic.
“Everyone is super excited about getting together again for the first time in a while,” Carson said.
In order to participate in the games, you must be enrolled Muscogee ages 55 and older. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. and a citizenship card must be presented. They are not taking any certain limit of people, Carson said they have had over 200 participants and are expecting that much for this year.
They will be handing out 250 t-shirts for the first 250 to register. The games will take place at Claude Cox Omniplex under the pavilion and the free throw contest will be inside the dome. For more information contact Christy Carson at 918-732-7765.
“I’m looking forward to everyone getting together again, seeing all the elders it has been over a year because we haven’t been able to hold our monthly meetings,” Carson said.
The Senior Games will take place on June 22, 2021 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Claude Cox Omniplex.
