OKMULGEE, Okla. – The Muscogee (Creek) Nation National Council held the monthly Business, Finance and Justice Committee session at the Mound Building on Nov. 7.
Passed legislation is subject to Full Council approval during the Regular Session.
The committee addressed the following legislation, the interpretation of which is attributed to language in the bills:
TR 23-112 Supporting the nomination of Sandra Golden as the Recording Secretary of the National Congress of American Indians Executive Committee. Speaker William Lowe sponsored the legislation, which passed 3-0-1. Rep. Golden abstained from voting.
The MCN believes Rep. Golden is qualified to serve on the NCAI Executive Committee.
NCA 23-144 Authorizing the expenditure of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Fiscal Relief funding from the U.S. Department of Treasury for the benefit of security on the tribal complex. Representative Thomasene Yahola Osborn sponsored the legislation, which passed 4-0. This bill was initially postponed from the Nov. 2 BFJ committee meeting.
According to the bill, the authorization of $922,410 will be expended for the MCN Executive Office and its governmental agencies. The executive branch requested ARPA Revenue Replacement funding for the purposes of capital and asset security. This is a result of increased governmental jurisdiction, responsibility, and public engagement. It has resulted in a need for increased security to ensure the safety and security of tribal and federal resources and funds.
