OKMULGEE, Okla.  –  The 2025 Muscogee Festival Tennis Tournament was held June 21. Despite the heat, people came to Hawthorn Park in Okmulgee to watch and play tennis.

Principal Chief David Hill welcomed all of the competitors and spectators to start the matches and made a point to ask where each of the competitors were from.

“I’m so glad all of y’all showed up today. I was telling the folks here that next year is going to be our 50th anniversary, so I’m already looking forward to what we’re going to do to make it better for everyone,” Chief Hill said.

Citizens of all ages competed in the tournament. Attendee Floyd Bales was pleased with the age range of those watching and participating in the tournament.

“I think it’s going very well. We have a decent number of people, and it’s a good turnout. We’ve got a lot of young people too, and that’s what we like to see, because they carry on the tradition,” Bales said.

Bales is also looking forward to next year, when the MCN will be sponsoring the North American Indian Tennis Association’s tournament.

“I hope a lot of Muscogee come out and play, and have a good time, and get plenty of exercise.”
