OKMULGEE, Okla.- The Muscogee (Creek) Nation Department of Education and Training announced two new programs for student aid–  the Higher Education Direct Assistance Program and the 2025 Virtual Learning Support Program. Applications opened April 15 for MCN students and are based on available funding.

In an announcement on their facebook page, the MCN DET shared that by supporting students in this way, they can help them focus on their studies and achieve their educational goals.

The Direct Assistance Program helps higher education students, and offers a $1,000 stipend. Funds can be used to help cover the expenses such as their textbooks, living costs and supplies.

According to the MCN DET, students eligible for the program must be an enrolled Tribal member of the MCN, currently enrolled for Spring 2025 full time and able to provide proof of enrollment. Undergraduate students need to be enrolled in 12+ credit hours and graduate students 6+ hours of coursework. Vocational programs need to be at least nine months.

The Virtual Learning Support Program provides assistance to students whose learning opportunities have been negatively impacted as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Eligible students receive a one-time stipend of $850 to support technology needs that support virtual learning.

To be eligible for the program students must be an enrolled member of MCN, enrolled in Pre-K-12 or have a full time status in a Vocational Technical Program, or be a Post-Secondary or Graduate student.

According to MCN DET, students must not have previously received Virtual Learning Assistance in 2020 and 2022-2024, or a MCN Accessing Choice in Education Materials Support service for technology. They will verify to make sure that none of the citizens had used those.

Students pursuing a GED are not eligible for either program. Reimbursements are not allowed.

For information about the programs contact them via phone at 918-732-7727. Program forms can be found at the following links: Higher Education Direct Assistance Program and Virtual Learning Support Program.
