OKMULGEE, Oklahoma — A Muscogee (Creek) Nation National Council Health, Education and Welfare Committee meeting was held February 9 by teleconference.
All passed legislation will go before the full Council during the regular session Feb. 26.
HEW addressed the following legislation, the interpretation of which is attributed to language in the bills:
TR 22-022 Authorizing the Principal Chief to submit a grant application to the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Fiscal Year 2022 Living Languages grant program for the Mvskoke Language Program. Representative Anna Marshall sponsored the resolution, which passed 4-0.
The Nation seeks funding from the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs, FY 2022 Living Languages grant program to document and expand access of the Mvskoke language by making language resources available to every citizen.
TR 22-023 Confirming the nomination of Grover Wind as the Office of the Veterans Affairs Services Administrator of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation. Rep. Robert Hufft sponsored the resolution, which passed 4-0.
The Principal Chief nominated Grover Wind to serve as the Office of the Veterans Affairs Services Administrator of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation with the term beginning upon confirmation of full council and ending concurrent with the term of the current Principal Chief.
TR 22-024 Authorizing the Principal Chief to execute a request for use of an auditorium with Beggs Public Schools. Rep. Hufft sponsored the resolution, which passed 4-0.
The MCN Youth Services Program and the Mvskoke Tribal Child & Youth Council seek to use the auditorium at Beggs to hold various events, programs or trainings for FY 2022.
A request for use of Band of Demons Auditorium form must be executed.
TR 22-027 Authorizing the Principal Chief to execute a memorandum of understanding between the Muscogee (Creek) Nation and Green Country Technology Center on behalf of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Department of Employment and Training. Rep. Mary Crawford sponsored the resolution, which passed 4-0.
The Green Country Technology Center is subject to the oversight of the Oklahoma Department of Career and Education Technology, whereas MCN’s Department of Employment and Training seeks Administrative Assistant training for employees of the Nation. GCTC has been selected by the program to provide such training.
