Center for Victim Services to receive 1.5M grant

Funds will go to support services and domestic violence shelter

HEW passes Timothy Hicks nomination to full council

The Muscogee (Creek) National Council held a Housing, Education, and Welfare committee meeting.

MVSKOKE RESERVATION-  On Oct 8, the Health, Education, and Welfare Committee held an in-person meeting. Passed legislation will go on to the next full council meeting, unless otherwise noted. 

The committee addressed the following legislation, the interpretation of which is attributed to language in the bills:

TR 24-118 A tribal resolution of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation authorizing the Principal Chief to execute a service plan agreement with Alcon Vision, LLC, for the benefit of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Department of Health passed with a vote of 3-0. Representative Mary Crawford sponsored the legislation. 

This legislation authorizes the Principal Chief to enter into a contract with Alcon Vision, LLC,  a technology and medical equipment company. The contract contains a limited waiver of sovereign immunity. 

TR 24-119 A tribal resolution of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation authorizing the Principal Chief to accept and execute a contract with Nihon Kohden for the benefit of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Department of Health passed with a vote of 3-0. Rep. Crawford sponsored the legislation. 

The legislation authorizes the Principal Chief to enter into a contract with Nihon Kohden, a medical equipment supply company. The contract contains a limited waiver of sovereign immunity. 

NCA 24-125 A law of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation authorizing the expenditure of grant funds in the amount of $1,515,235 awarded from the Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families for the benefit of the Center for Victim Services passed with a vote of 3-0. Rep. Crawford sponsored the legislation. 

The MCN Center for Victim Services received a $1,515,235 grant from Family Violence Prevention and Services/Domestic Violence Shelter and Supportive Grant. The grant funds will be used to open the Nation’s first domestic violence shelter and to provide support services for victims and their children.
