OKMULGEE, Oklv. – A Muscogee (Creek) Nation National Council Emergency Session was held via teleconference April 26.
TR 24-027 A tribal resolution of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation authorizing the Principal Chief to submit a plan of management and apply for grant funds from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Services and commit a tribal match. Representative Thomasene Yahola Osborn sponsored the bill, which was unanimously adopted 14-0.
The grant will expend $14,666,572 in funds for the 2024 Summer EBT Program. Additionally MCN will provide $1,947,618 in funds for a total of $16,614,190. Through this legislation the grant will provide $120 per eligible child during the summer on EBT cards to buy food through the Nation’s WIC program. According to the bill, 105,604 children will be eligible for the EBT credit.
TR 24-028 A tribal resolution of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation authorizing the Principal Chief to execute a memorandum of understanding between the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, Chickasaw Nation and Cherokee Nation for the 2024 Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) for children program. Rep. Thomasene Yahola Osborn sponsored the bill, which was unanimously adopted 14-0.
The MOU will allow MCN to collaborate with the aforementioned tribes to provide EBT Program benefits for eligible children on the reservation. This legislation will outline a plan of management for bill TR 24-027’s $14.6M grant.
NCA 24-019 A law of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation authorizing the expenditure and transfer of grant funds awarded from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and appropriating funds for the tribal match for the benefit of the 2024 Summer EBT Program. Rep. Osborn sponsored the bill, which was adopted with a vote of 12-1.
This legislation will transfer the total sum of $16,614,190 as outlined in bill TR 24-027. It will follow in accordance with the plan of management and MOU approved by bill TR 24-028 regarding funding for the 2024 Summer EBT Program.
