MVSKOKE RESERVATION – On Tuesday, Sept. 22, the Business, Finance, and Justice/Land, Natural Resources, and Cultural Preservation Joint Committee held an in-person meeting. All legislation passed through the committee will be presented in the next session for full council approval unless otherwise noted.
The committee addressed the following legislation, the interpretation of which is attributed to language in the bills:
TR 26-065 A tribal resolution of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation authorizing the Principal Chief and Secretary of Housing to execute a settlement agreement to settle a lawsuit regarding a fence encroaching on real property owned by the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Department of Housing in Wagoner County, Oklahoma. Representative James Factor sponsored the legislation. It passed 9-0.
According to the legislation, the suit involves a privacy fence encroaching on a property owned by the Nation in Wagoner County. The case, Muscogee (Creek) Nation, Muscogee (Creek) Nation Department of Housing v. Bill and Thelma Johnson, is currently in the Cherokee Nation District Court. The legislation states that upon removal of the fence to the Housing Department’s satisfaction, the lawsuit will be dismissed. There was no discussion on this legislation.
