TVLSE, Oklv. – MCN Health held an important event for Muscogee citizens on Aug. 8 at the River Spirit Casino in Tulsa: the 18th annual Diabetes Awareness Summit. The conference was free and open to all Muscogee citizens, and provided attendees with a wide variety of resources, including free health screenings, physical activity workshops, numerous vendors from across the state, and several classes meant to give attendees information on how to live healthier lives. A free lunch was also provided to those who attended, and it even featured an appearance from NDN Elvis, who entertained both staff and attendees alike as they ate and enjoyed the event.
The Muscogee Nation posted about the event on Facebook, including a statement from Tim Hicks, the Acting Secretary of the MCN Department of Health. “I’m encouraged as a healthcare leader for the Muscogee Nation to tell you about the capabilities we have, the technology we have, and more reporting mechanisms than we’ve ever had before,” Hicks said. “With these resources, we’ve been focusing on major advancements in population health, preventative medicine, as well as diabetic care. For us to change history, for us to look to the future, we have to continue to educate… We have to let everyone know what they can do to combat this disease.”
