OKMULGEE, Okla.- On Dec. 16, MCN citizen Micah McDermott was featured on LiveWire about his recent children’s book publication “Nokose’s Adventurous Saturday.” McDermott shared the inspiration behind the story, his experience publishing his first book, and future plans for a series.
McDermott wrote the story the evening his first son was born 23 years ago and never had plans on publishing it. “I wanted to share what I thought his life and my life would be as a dad and a son and him growing up,” McDermott said.
“Always remember you are loved. The creator watches over you, is always with you, guides you and holds your little hand wherever you go.” Nokose
“But the inspiration was him, his name is Jesse, and you know he was kind of a big boy when he was born, he was over eight pounds, and so I think part of that came as being a bear.”
The story about a bear and his adventures in the woods with friends then sat on a shelf for years until encouragement from friends and family led to the book’s publications. McDermott has intentionally incorporated Mvskoke language in his book using character names and basic numbers. He shared that as the series expands he plans to incorporate more Mvskoke language and cultural practices and introduce more characters in the series.
McDermott plans on getting copies of “Nokose’s Adventurous Saturday” to sell in January during an official book launch but copies of the book can be purchased online at amazon.com.
